Elyse Schajer

Associate Attorney


    Elyse Schajer’s practice covers a broad range of sophisticated corporate and real estate matters, both commercial and residential.  Elyse has extensive experience with acquisitions and sales, asset and stock purchase and sale transactions, structuring and negotiating joint venture transactions (including limited liability company operating agreements, joint venture agreements, shareholders’ agreements and partnership agreements), commercial, office and retail leasing, real estate financing (including mortgage loans and mezzanine financing), property management and development and the drafting and negotiation of the necessary documentation incident to the foregoing matters.
She has experience representing large institutional clients in portfolio and multi-asset deals, as well as local businesses, operators and individuals in single asset transactions.  Elyse prides herself on being a business lawyer with the ability to adapt her representation depending on the context of the transaction and the particular objectives and goals of her clients.

  Prior to joining Edward I. Sumber, P.C., Elyse spent four years as an attorney in the Manhattan office of Hogan & Hartson, LLP, in the Corporate, Finance and Tax Department, Real Estate Group. During the preceding five years Elyse was an attorney in the Manhattan office of Duval & Stachenfeld LLP in the Transactional Department, Corporate and Real Estate Groups.

She received her Juris Doctor degree at the George Washington University Law School where she was a member of the International Law Review and the Student Bar Association and she received her undergraduate degree from Tufts University in Social Psychology and Studio Art.  During law school Elyse was a law clerk at the Federal Communications Commission in the immediate office of former Commissioner Andrew C. Barrett as well as a law clerk at the Federal Trade Commission, Bureau of Competition, Non-Mergers II Litigation Division.

Elyse is also a studio artist with an extensive background in drawing, painting and illustration.  She is a patron of the arts and has done pro-bono work for artists including the structuring and formation of corporate entities and the drafting and negotiation of commission agreements.
